Adelaide plans to continue to take its one annual SANFL home game to regional areas.

The North Eastern Football League is set to benefit from hosting Sunday’s first SANFL Showdown against Port Adelaide at Clare and Crows football administration general manager Phil Harper hopes the ‘road’ game will become a permanent highlight of the Club’s fixture.

Clare Oval was chosen as the location for the first SANFL Showdown as a tribute to the Mid North community for the support given to the Redden family after six-year-old Max Redden died in a playground accident in October last year.

His father Tom is the dealer principal of Clare Valley Toyota and has strong ties to the Adelaide Football Club.

“Playing our only SANFL ‘home’ match in Clare was a way the Adelaide Football Club could show respect and support to the Redden family but most importantly also help the Reddens thank the Mid North community for their amazing support,” Harper said.

“Our focus at the moment is making Sunday a success but we will only have one ‘home’ game in the SANFL every year against Port so it makes sense to involve other regional football communities in future seasons to try to help them out.”

Adelaide’s round five game against Port starts at 2.10pm on Sunday at Clare Oval. Gates open at 10am. North Eastern Football League rivals South Clare and North Clare will clash in the curtain-raiser.

Tickets can be purchased at the ground but Adelaide Crows ticketed members will be admitted to the match free on presentation of their membership card.

Sunday’s game will be telecast live from 2pm on 7mate.
