Adelaide captain Rory Sloane has joked his ‘reasonably bent’ nose created extra work for pathology staff performing coronavirus tests at Club headquarters on Wednesday.

A large number of Crows underwent COVID-19 testing, with every AFL player and official across the competition to be tested for the virus before Friday.

Tests involve a throat swab taken from the mouth and a deep nasal swab inserted into both nostrils.

“I had no idea what to expect really. I’d heard rumours that it went quite far up the nostrils,” Sloane told reporters via a Zoom press conference.

“As you can see, my nose is reasonably bent. One side was more than fine. What they do, they just grab a swab, put it straight up, and it feels like it’s back in your throat.

One side was really nice and easy, but this bent side I think they ran into a couple of bumps, so they had to go a little harder on that side.

Despite the minor inconvenience, Sloane is more than happy to undergo regular coronavirus tests as part of the AFL’s Return to Play protocols.

“Look, it’s just something we’re going to have to do (and) get used to,” he said.

“We just make sure we do so we can play football and keep everyone safe. Everyone’s going to be more than fine doing it.”

Sloane believes the coronavirus tests are one step closer to returning to action, with AFL training sessions possibly resuming as early as next week.

The midfielder was excited by the prospect, despite being unsure whether it would involve training as a full playing group or in smaller numbers.

“I would love to be back as soon as possible,” Sloane said.

“(To) have that locker room chat again, be able to see a few more mates and just be around people.

“I think that's something we're all missing at the moment."
