HE KICKED a career-high seven goals last week, but Crows skipper Simon Goodwin says he'll "only get better" playing as a forward this season.
The four-time All-Australian onballer has been a revelation in Adelaide's attack so far this season as the Crows aim to expose more youngsters to life in the midfield.
"You could probably say I've been a bit surprised [with how well I've adapted], but at the same time I spent the whole pre-season in attack doing a lot of work," Goodwin said on Wednesday.
"I've learned a lot off other players, including Brett Burton, who I've used as a bouncing board for information as to how to play in the forward line.
"I obviously play a number of roles also in the midfield and in defence and I feel comfortable in all those positions, which is probably different how I've felt in previous years.
"I've always felt comfortable playing in defence and in the midfield, but now I feel really comfortable in the forward line as well. It just adds another string to my bow."
Goodwin, like Burton, is a tough match-up for opposition coaches and is likely to cause a few headaches as he learns more about his new position.
"The more time you spend up forward, the more you get used to it and the more you learn how to know how to play on certain defenders," he said.
"The more time you spend up there, the better you'll get, but you also rely on really good delivery and ball movement, which is something we focus on as a footy club."
