Adelaide legend Mark Ricciuto loves a chance to reminisce with an old teammate.
This week, thanks to Optus and the G’day A Day campaign, Ricciuto caught up with former Crows player turned radio host Ryan Fitzgerald.
The first point of discussion? A game the pair remember for very different reasons.
“Some of the old classic footy games have been great,” Ricciuto said.
“What about my 200th Fitzy? That was a great game.”
Unfortunately for Fitzgerald, who played eight games for the Crows following 10 for Sydney, it was his last professional match.
“That’s when I did me knee, that was my last ever game,” Fitzgerald laughed.
“I got delisted after that day, all I can remember is I don’t want to go out like this.
“I was coming off the ground and there were about eight people from Canberra clapping.”
Ricciuto jested it may have been for the best.
“Probably a blessing in disguise, you weren’t much of a footballer,” Ricciuto joked.
The GdayADay campaign aims to keep Australians connected during the period of social separation.
Each day, Optus will share a star’s video-call as they provide their own positivity tips and encourage other Australians to do the same; check in on a friend, family member or even a work colleague. Others involved include Daniel Ricciardo, Ian Thorpe, Mel McLaughlin, Edwina McCann and a host of other Australian personalities.
Speaking of, Ricciuto and Fiztgerald also discussed how they kept busy - from camping to yoyos.
“We ended up camping out in the backyard,” Ricciuto said.
“We had the tents out, the two boys were in the swags… do yourself a favour and get back to the grassroots, cook a little damper.”
Fitzgerald, in comparison, rolled out a few at-home hobbies.
“Breakdancing, wall-ball, four square in the garage… even brought out the yoyos and marbles,” he said.
So, who will you call to say g’day to? #GdayADay
