Adelaide suffered its worst AFL Fantasy result of the season as the Dockers suffocated the Crows in Sunday’s clash at Patersons Stadium.
For the first time this year, not a single Crow managed to crack the 100-point milestone. But there was still some good news on the Fantasy front for Adelaide.
Brodie Smith ($443,242) led the way with 98 Fantasy points from 24 possessions and six marks. The long-kicking defender showed his versatility with a run in the midfield in the second half, but could not turn the tide alone against the in-form Dockers. Smith sits inside the top ten defenders in the competition for total Fantasy points scored this season, and has swelled by over $70k in value in 2014. The 22-year-old has a generous break even of 81 points for Round 13, and has averaged 105 points in his last three games at Adelaide Oval. If you don’t have Smith in your side already, now is a good time to trade him in.
Tough midfielder Rory Sloane ($494,525) is another Crow who is prime for the picking. Sloane’s value has dipped below the $500k mark for the first time this season despite notching a respectable 87 points against Fremantle on Sunday. The Club’s co-vice captain has become a genuine Fantasy premium in 2014, having posted seven 100-plus scores from 11 matches this year. Much of Sloane’s scoring power comes from his tackling prowess, with the 2013 Club Champion equal-third in the AFL with 75 tackles for the year. It is unlikely Sloane will be available at such a cheap price again this season so grab a bargain while you can.
Three goals helped Charlie Cameron ($177,095) to a handy 61-point total against the Dockers. The speedy forward also laid three tackles and took three marks to be a shining light for the Crows on an otherwise disappointing day. Cameron’s value has steadily improved since his Round Nine debut against Collingwood, but Fantasy coaches need to move quickly to make the most of his bargain price. The 19-year-old has shown he belongs at AFL level and is the type of player who could explode with a huge Fantasy score without warning.
Wingman David Mackay ($411,373) continued his fine season with a solid 81-point performance on Sunday. ‘D-Mac’ collected 21 possessions along with five tackles against the Dockers and remains an underrated player at West Lakes. The 25-year-old is owned by less than one per cent of the AFL Fantasy community, despite stellar performances this season against St Kilda (120 points), Collingwood (98) and Gold Coast (95). Mackay could be a unique mid-priced option for Fantasy coaches searching for an edge in head-to-head leagues.
