Callinan stars for Bulldogs
Mature age rookie Ian Callinan was back to his best with a powerful performance for Central District in the SANFL on Saturday.
Playing his second game since recovering from injury, midfielder Callinan won 30 possessions and had a huge influence on the team’s 93 point smashing of Glenelg.
For the Tigers, James Sellar returned to the SANFL after a month with the Crows and gathered 13 possessions in the ruck. Jarryd Lyons collected six kicks and ten handballs as a small forward/midfielder.
Brodie Martin was the pick of the three Crows playing for Sturt against West Adelaide at Unley on Saturday. He ran hard from the wing and half back to collect 33 disposals. Richard Tambling gathered 17 possessions and used his speed and aggression to win one on one contests and keep his name in the mix for AFL selection. Aidan Riley returned to Adelaide from Melbourne (where he was an emergency for the Crows) in time to play for Sturt. He had a quiet start but he was a key player in the second half when he had most of his 14 possessions and kicked two goals. For West, Brad Moran had 18 possessions in the ruck and up forward for West Adelaide.
In Saturday’s game at The Parade, Myke Cook play up forward for South and finished with 10 ten possessions while Daniel Talia (six possessions) played all day in defence as Norwood surged to a 76-point win.
Adelaide Oval hosted the Foxtel Cup clash between Port and North Adelaide on Saturday. Ivan Maric was solid in the ruck for the Magpies but didn’t get many possessions while for North, Tony Armstrong (10 possessions) played at halfback and controlled his opponent for the majority of the game.
The Eagles had the bye, leading to Brodie Smith making a guest appearance in South’s reserves after recovering from a hip strain. He had 23 disposals on the wing and in the midfield. Will Young, out for five weeks with a knee strain, returned with Norwood’s reserves and had eight possessions in defence. Sam Shaw picked up 15 possessions as a forward for Glenelg’s reserves.
