Interim Senior Coach Scott Camporeale says it’s too soon to put a timeframe on the return of Richard Douglas, who had surgery to remove his appendix on Monday night.
Douglas, 28, has been released from hospital and is recovering at home. The 2010 Crows Club Champion won’t play against Richmond at Adelaide Oval on Friday night
Camporeale said Douglas would be subjected to ongoing assessment during his recovery.
“We’re not 100 per cent sure (when Douglas will return to playing). It’s probably a week-by-week thing … depending on how much he can do,” Camporeale said on Thursday.
“He’s in good spirits. I spoke to him yesterday and he seems to be okay. He may be able to get to the game (to watch) on Friday night. Other than that, we’ll see how he goes day by day.
“I think it was one of those ones that came on reasonably quickly. He got to the hospital, they did some tests and that (an appendectomy) was the best way to go about it. I’m not sure you can muck around with those things.
“It’s disappointing for Richard and disappointing for us that we’re not going to have him tomorrow night. He’s a quality player.”
Adelaide will also be without wingman Brodie Martin.
Martin, who was a late withdrawal from the game against Sydney because of illness, will miss a second match. Camporeale said the illness had prevented Martin from doing the training and preparation required to be considered for selection this week.
“Brodie had sickness all week and hasn’t really been in (at the Club). He won’t be available.”
Adelaide’s team to play Richmond will be named on afc.com.au at 5:55pm (local) on Thursday.
