Geelong swingman Harry Taylor is in a race against time to prove his fitness for the Cats' crunch match against Adelaide on Thursday night.

Taylor, who kicked the sealer in Geelong's win over Sydney at the SCG, failed to train in the club's main session on Monday morning.

Playing his second match back from a plantar fascia setback, the dual All Australian defender has moved forward due to Geelong's success with a makeshift defence led by Mark Blicavs.

"From our senior team, we've got a couple that we need to monitor," coach Chris Scott said on Monday.

"Harry Taylor's a bit sore, we just need to monitor that situation. Harry just got a bit sore really late in the game. I'm not exactly sure of the extent of the issue, but it'll become clearer over the next 24 hours.

Midfielder Jordan Murdoch copped a head knock against the Swans and is still yet to be cleared to take on the Crows, despite training with teammates on Monday.

Second-year midfielder Sam Simpson is in the frame to be on the flight to Adelaide and play his first game of the season after playing restricted minutes in the VFL on Sunday.

Barring any setbacks, Daniel Menzel is in line to play his first game since round five after a 10-week groin injury.
