Adelaide has closed out the trade period with four new players, and two picks inside the first round of the National Draft for the first time in the Club’s history.
Troy Menzel, Paul Seedsman, Curtly Hampton and Dean Gore will all wear Crows colours next year.
Gore, 19, became a Crow on the opening day of the trade period. Adelaide netted the former Sturt junior and draft pick Nos.9 and 28 from Geelong in exchange for Patrick Dangerfield and pick No.53.
Hampton, 22, was the second player traded to the Crows. The line-breaking utility landed at West Lakes after Adelaide sent a future (2016) second-round draft pick to Greater Western Sydney.
The Crows parted with pick No.32 for Seedsman after the rebounding Collingwood defender selected Adelaide as his preferred club.
Adelaide capped off the trade period by snaring exciting Carlton forward Menzel on the second-to-last day. Menzel, 21, departed the Blues in exchange for Crows midfielder Sam Kerridge and pick No.28, which was received as part of the Dangerfield deal.
Head of Football David Noble said the Club had bolstered the strength of its overall squad and addressed specific needs.
“Don Pyke wanted some versatility. We also wanted good ball users with speed,” Noble said.
“Not only have we ticked those boxes with the four guys we’ve brought into our Club, but if you look at the age profile we think we’ve really made inroads into acquiring talent from those years where we didn’t have access to early draft picks.”
The Crows currently hold pick Nos.9, 13 and 71 in the AFL National Draft to be held in Adelaide on Tuesday, November 24. The last selection will be used to finalise rookie Jake Kelly’s promotion to the senior list.
“We’ve ticked off the ‘needs’ component during the trade period. Now, we go to the draft and we’ll take the best talent that’s available,” Noble said.
“We think we’ll get a couple of rippers at No.9 and No.13.”
