Draftee Harry Dear will undergo a shoulder reconstruction this week.
Dear, 18, dislocated his left shoulder in a collision during the Club’s SANFL season-opener against North Adelaide at Prospect Oval. The 197cm, 98kg, key forward will be sidelined indefinitely as he recovers from the injury. Dear was Adelaide’s final pick (No.58) in last year’s AFL National Draft.
Another Crows tall, James Podsiadly, has also received bad news after subsequent assessment.
Initial scans cleared Podsiadly of structural damage to his back. However, further investigation has revealed the utility has a small fracture in his lower back, which will keep him sidelined for at least a month. Podsiadly also sustained the injury in Adelaide’s Round Two SANFL match.
Midfielder Sam Kerridge is a chance to play this weekend after a longer-than-expected layoff with a hamstring complaint. Kerridge hasn’t played since Adelaide’s opening NAB Challenge match against North Melbourne in Port Lincoln in March.
Defender Kyle Cheney will miss another fortnight because of a hamstring strain.
Defender Sam Siggins (buttock) and ruckman Luke Lowden (Achilles) remain a few weeks away. Draftee Mitch McGovern suffered a setback at training on the weekend, with an Achilles complaint set to keep him from playing for 2-3 weeks.
Brad Crouch is progressing well in his rehabilitation from foot surgery. Young onballers Riley Knight (ankle) and Rory Atkins (knee) are out of their moon boot and brace, respectively. Knight has started running on the anti-gravity treadmill, and Atkins hopes to do the same in the coming fortnight.
Versatile Crow Andy Otten is eight months into his recovery from a knee reconstruction, and is joining in select training drills. Sam Shaw (hamstring) is also hoping to up the ante in his training next month. Defender Brent Reilly (fractured skull) has been added to the Club’s long-term injury list.
