Dual premiership player Mathew Stokes will bolster Geelong’s lineup for Saturday’s clash with the Crows at Simonds Stadium.
The veteran midfielder starred in Geelong’s VFL win over the Northern Blues last weekend, picking up 25 possessions, six clearances and a goal.
Stokes, 30, hasn’t played at AFL level since the Cats’ Round 20 loss to Hawthorn at the MCG but is a confirmed starter for the club’s final game of the year before hanging up the boots himself at season's end.
Fellow midfielder George Horlin-Smith may also return to AFL action after an impressive showing at VFL level.
The 22-year-old midfielder was dropped after Geelong’s draw with the Saints in Round 21, but responded in fine fashion in the Cats’ 81-point VFL victory. He racked up 30 touches, six clearances and four goals in an outstanding display and could front up against the Crows this weekend.
Josh Cowan (26 possessions, one goal) has only played one AFL game this year but could be given another opportunity on Saturday.
Key forward Shane Kersten kicked three goals and may also come into selection calculations on Thursday evening.
Josh Caddy (knee soreness) isn’t expected to confront the Crows, while Mitch Duncan is also unlikely given he’s now missed three matches with a calf complaint.
