Melbourne coach Paul Roos had his say following his side’s 22-point loss to Adelaide on Sunday.

On the Crows’ ability to wrestle back control of the game after half time…

“The second quarter, we kicked eight goals to three, so when we (execute the game plan) we’re really good.

“They’re just very, very good at playing for 120 minutes, we probably felt that five-ten minute patch in the third [quarter] was the difference.

“The better teams just do it for longer and we just can’t get to that level quite at the moment.”

On being able to play attractive football and still get the results…

“You’re not going to win finals if a team kicks 18 goals against you, from our point of view we need to get better in all phases. What we’re trying to sell and as a footy club is that we are improving, we are getting better and there’s no question.

“You watch today’s game of footy, it was a very good game, a lot of pressure around the ball, we were able to score really well at times, they were able to score well and they did it better than we did.

“I think it’s more important that we keep improving… if you look at attractive footy, I’d rather win ten goals to nine. For us it’s more about improvement in different phases of the game.”

On Adelaide’s team balance…

“They’re a really well balanced team, they’re good in all areas of the game, they’ve got an experienced team and they’ve got a team that’s played a lot of footy together.

“That’s often the formula to be a top four team. When the whips are cracking at the end of the year, the team’s that don’t have a lot of injuries, that are experienced teams are generally around the mark.

“They’re not relying on any one or two players to play well and that’s probably the difficulty coaching against them. Eddie will bob up and Taylor will bob up, and Rory in the midfield, the Crouch boys, Thompson’s still a great player.”

On Adelaide’s current form streak…

“I just think they’re a good team because I’ve seen a bit of them play. Statistically they’re high in all the important categories.

“Every coach knows there’s a fair way to go, I’m sure ‘Pykey’ would agree with that but he would be happy with how his team is playing and how consistent they are.”
