Hugh Greenwood is set to play his first game of football in eight years in Saturday’s SANFL trial against Port Adelaide.
Ruckman Paul Hunter and fellow rookie Keenan Ramsey will also feature in their first competitive outings of the year in the clash with the Magpies.
The three AFL-listed Crows are among a 25-man squad for Adelaide’s opening SANFL trial at Alberton Oval, which kicks off at 10am.
A gifted junior athlete, Greenwood signed with the Crows last September as a Category B rookie after retiring from a promising basketball career.
The Tasmanian, who turns 24 next month, starred as a junior for the Lauderdale Football Club and went on to represent the state as a ‘bottom-age’ player at the AFL National Championships.
Hunter will play his first game in Crows colours since being selected with Adelaide’s first pick in last year’s AFL Rookie Draft.
Teen forward Ramsey has also been named in the team, which could yet include players not required in Adelaide’s NAB Challenge clash with Fremantle in WA on Sunday.
New SANFL captain Luke Carey will play his first game as skipper and is among several returning development players set to confront the Magpies.
Matthew Spencely, Josh Wittwer, Tyson Lindsay, Dylan Ribbons, Brock Castree, Matthew Johncock and Addison Burns have all previously played for the SANFL Crows. Tall defender Luke Andruszkiewcz and small forward Kynan Betts were also part of the development squad last year but failed to play a game for the Club.
Trent Heffernan of Port Districts will play against his former side, after notching two League games for Port Adelaide in 2013.
Two other players also boast League experience at SANFL level. Wade Hancock and played six senior games for Glenelg and represented NSW/ACT at the AFL U16 and U18 National Championships. Hard-running midfielder Scott Spriggs is another former Tiger, who played five League games with Glenelg in 2014.
Port Adelaide has named an experienced squad which includes AFL-listed players Alipate Carlile, Paul Stewart, Kane Mitchell and Sam Colquhoun.
The trial match is free to the public and begins at 10am at Alberton Oval.
