Adelaide is confident it can challenge Geelong with or without high-flying forward Mitch McGovern.
The 22-year-old reported soreness in his left hamstring and is considered unlikely to confront the Cats in Friday night’s Preliminary Final at Adelaide Oval.
McGovern completed a short running session on Monday morning and hasn’t given up hope of taking his place this week.
The dynamic goalkicker missed 10 matches with a serious hamstring injury in his opposite leg earlier this season, forcing the Crows to adjust its forward mix.
Crows assistant coach David Teague said the Club had options should McGovern be ruled out for Friday night’s blockbuster.
“The positive for us is we’ve got a lot of depth in that area and we’ve got quite a few guys who can come in and play a role,” Teague said.
“Mitch was out for a while and we tried a couple of different options throughout the year.
“We’re very comfortable we can put a team out there that can win this week.”
Several players could come into consideration if McGovern is unable to take his place.
Speedy trio Wayne Milera Junior, Curtly Hampton and Troy Menzel know how to hit the scoreboard and taller options Andy Otten, Alex Keath and Jonathon Beech can play at either end of the ground.
“We’re comfortable we’ve got plenty of depth in that area,” Teague said.
“Whoever that player is at certain times they’re going to have to compete in the air, and they’ve got to compete on the ground. One of the things that Mitch does well is he does both.
“We haven’t relied on one person all year and this game will be no different whether Mitch plays or doesn’t play.”
Preliminary Final ticketing info
Friday night will mark Adelaide’s first home Preliminary Final in more than a decade.
More than 52,000 fans packed into Adelaide Oval to witness the Club’s Qualifying Final victory over Greater Western Sydney a fortnight ago.
Teague said the support of a vocal home crowd would give the squad an extra lift come game day.
“The boys talked about how the crowd really got behind them and I’ve got no doubt they’ll do that again this week,” Teague said.
“I think the players are really pumped. The energy levels for this game I think are going to be through the roof, particularly with the crowd behind them.
“We’re very lucky that we have this ability to have a home crowd that’s so vocal.”
Teague said Saturday's training session was a "solid hit out" and the boys are in a good space heading into Friday night #weflyasone
