Brodie Smith played all 22 games in 2019 - a pleasing result after an ACL injury cost him all but two matches last season.

Thankfully for the Crows, Smith looked adamant to make up for lost time.

The 27-year-old finished the season with a career-best average of 22.9 disposals per game and garnered elite average returns in contested possessions (7.1), ground ball gets (6.2) and pressure acts (14.1).

He also topped the Club for total metres gained (511.6 metres per match) and was involved in more score involvements (103) than any other Crows defender.

Smith showed his versatility in the second half of the season, rotating through centre bounces and across half-forward as the Crows searched for additional firepower.

At a glance (AFL):

Games: 22
Disposals per game: 22.9
Contested possessions per game: 7.1
Total metres gained: 511.6
Score involvements per game: 4.7

Round Five v Gold Coast

Few moments in the game against Gold Coast epitomised Smith’s efforts more than his goal in the second quarter.

A mark and stumble around 70 metres out from goal was immediately followed by Smith springing to his feet and launching from 55.

But there was plenty more to celebrate for Smith in his 150th AFL match.

Add in 27 touches, a second goal, eight total score involvements and six inside-50s and it was clear that Smith had a day to remember.

Most agreed, with the South Australian earning a call-up to AFL.com.au’s Team of the Week as well as netting nine (out of a possible 10) coaches’ votes.
