Adelaide coach Don Pyke has revealed he drew inspiration from one of Australia’s most iconic movies to make the co-captain call.
Speaking on Triple M’s The Rush Hour with Jars & Louie, Pyke said the decision to make Rory Sloane and Taylor Walker co-captains was backed by a famous line from The Castle (1997).
“It’s probably like the Dennis Denuto, ‘it was the vibe of the thing’,” Pyke said.
“It was something I was thinking about at the end of last season.
“The two together complement each other really well (and) they love the footy club.
“It just sort of made sense.”
Pyke said selecting co-captains was partly to give support to Walker and because “Rory is a great leader in his own right.”
Speaking about potential debutant Chayce Jones, Pyke said he was “a big chance”.
“Chayce has come in and played some good footy,” Pyke said.
“He played some senior footy in Tassie so probably has been able to step up and play against some of the bigger AFL guys.
“We had some high picks this year, we’re super excited about the whole group.”
With daylight saving coming to a close, Pyke said he was hoping to squeeze in a few more rounds of golf - as long as it’s not against winger Paul Seedsman.
“The first two times I played Seeds he took some money off me and proceeded to remind me about it for the next nine months,” Pyke said.
“Eventually I snuck 20 back off him which was pleasing.”
