Adelaide co-captain Erin Phillips has thrown her support behind Tayla Harris after a photo of the Carlton star was ridiculed on social media this week.

An image of Harris was shared on 7AFL’s Facebook page and became the subject of inappropriate comments from Internet trolls before being taken down.

“It was disappointing taking down the photo, but the greatest thing is the response,” Phillips said.

“Everyone has got behind her and supported her, what an athlete she is.

“Out of the disappointing incident, it has empowered her and shown Australia it is not acceptable to troll.”

Phillips said there should be more accountability for social media comments.

The photo has since been reposted by 7AFL and is being monitored.

The Crows will face Geelong in a preliminary final this Sunday, marking the first time the side has played on Adelaide Oval.

Although Phillips has played on the ground before (in Slowdown matches), she said it was “a dream come true” for the girls to play on Adelaide Oval.

“As Doc (coach Matthew Clarke) said, big games should be played on big stages,” Phillips said.

Despite the home final and new venue, Phillips said the players have been doing a great job of handling the pressure and staying focussed.

“The maturity of the group has blown me away,” she said.

“They (Geelong) are a very young team and will have an attitude of nothing to lose.

“I’ve been in games we should have won, and didn’t.

“We won’t be taking the Cats lightly.”
