Rachael MacLeod is ready to pull on her size 11 boots and show off her sporting skills when her class takes on the Adelaide Crows next week.

The 12-year-old is the lucky winner of the Adelaide Crows AFL Telstra Community Camp Primary Schools competition, and her year seven class at McDonald Park Primary School will play against the Adelaide Crows on the school oval next Thursday February 17 at 11am.

When Rachael’s entry form was drawn earlier today from 500 entries she was immediately thrust into the spotlight and has instantly became the most talked about student at the school.

Deputy Principal Scott Dickson says the entire school, which is the biggest primary school in the Mount with over 600 students, is buzzing with excitement and already the catch-cry in the school yard is “one McLeod leaves - another gets a chance” (referring to Crows legend Andrew McLeod’s retirement at the end of last year).

“I have just spoken to Rachael in her classroom and she is really looking forward to playing the Crows and is very happy for both the school and her class,” Mr Dickson said.

“The school can’t wait to go head to head with the Crows and I imagine with her height Rachael could start at centre-half back and curb the influence of Walker or Tippett.”

Rachael, who has three brothers, has grown up kicking the football around and is sure to lead from the front next week, showing off the AFL skills she learned at Auskick.

The tallest girl in her class, with monstrous size 11 feet, Rachael is a natural when it comes to sport and has played Auskick, soccer, netball with her current passion hockey and her U13 Riddock Club hockey team.

Her mum Catherine Lightbody says her only daughter is very, very excited and looking forward to it, especially playing against her favourite player Patrick Dangerfield.

“We will all be there to cheer her on, I just have to see if I can sneak her brothers into the team,” Ms Lightbody said.

The Adelaide Football Club Junior Development team has been in the south east this week presenting the "Crows in Schools" program and handing out entry forms for the “once in a lifetime opportunity” Adelaide Crows Telstra AFL Community Camp Primary school competition.
