Salisbury State Emergency Service unit manager Anthony Gunter says the Crows’ Emergency Services Round is a meaningful way to honour those who dedicate their lives to helping the community.
Gunter will be one of 3000 frontline workers and volunteers attending the Crows’ Emergency Services Round, which will be hosted during the Round Three clash against North Melbourne on Sunday.
Now in its third year, the round will provide Crows fans an opportunity to thank emergency service personnel, and a platform for them to either sign up as a volunteer or consider a new career.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Gunter said he was proud to be a part of the round again, after attending last year’s.
“I don’t do what I do with the SES for pats on the back or acknowledgement, or rewards, I do it to help the community and people in it,” Gunter said.
“(But) we are extremely grateful, on behalf of all the volunteers across the agencies, to be able to attend something like this is amazing and to be recognised for just doing what we do.
“We are all volunteers, we give up our time wherever we possibly can, some of our members do phenomenal things in the community purely for the enjoyment of helping other people and the rewarding feeling you get from digging deep.
“I attended the game last year and the vibe and atmosphere in the ground was fantastic, the recognition we received and the warmth of the people in the stadium last year had a great feeling about it, it was a phenomenal event and I really enjoyed it.”
Minister for Emergency Services Emily Bourke said the gesture went a long way to thanking our emergency service personnel.
“It’s an incredible opportunity for us to be able to celebrate their achievements and say thank you, thank you for being willing to put your hand up, thank you for being willing to protect our community and for keeping our community safe,” Minister Bourke said.
“It’s also an opportunity to learn about what they do, so I encourage everyone to stop, have a chat, make the most of the activated areas that we’ll have at the front of the stadium that we’ll have to learn more about our emergency services.”
Crows Senior Coach Matthew Nicks said it was an honour to be part of the round and our emergency service personnel deserved to be recognised for the incredible work they do.
Adelaide faces North Melbourne at Adelaide Oval on Sunday at 2.50pm.
