Adelaide caught a glimpse of some of its exciting Next Generation Academy (NGA) talent at the weekend, as it faced off against Port Adelaide’s NGA in the 2024 SANFL Under 16 Showcase at Glenelg Oval.
The Crows side - which was made up of players from Sturt, Central District, Norwood and Glenelg - booted eight goals to Port’s two in the first half before running out 52 points winners.
Central District’s Dougie Cochrane was judged best afield, while Glenelg’s Max Atkin was the Crows’ focal point up forward, booting a game-high four goals.
Saturday’s match marked the return of the SANFL Under 16 Showcase, with the last clash taking place in 2019.
Adelaide leads the overall win-loss record in the Showcase, having now won two of the three clashes.
Speaking after the match, Crows Academies manager Jarrod Meers said it was fantastic to see the SANFL’s best young talent go head-to-head.
“After a hiatus for the Boys NGA games (the last one was in 2019), it was great to see the respective Adelaide and Port NGA Academies guernseys showcasing the best SANFL U16 talent,” Meers said.
“We’re always committed to supporting the pathway programs here in South Australia in both the male and female space”
