He's never tasted victory against the Hawks, but Rory Laird is confident Adelaide has the firepower to end a seven-match losing streak against the Victorian heavyweights at the MCG on Saturday.
Laird has played four matches against Hawthorn in his five seasons at AFL level but has been on the wrong end of the result on every occasion.
In the 40-man All-Australian squad last year, Laird's said the whole Club was intent on breaking the drought stemming back to Round One, 2011.
"You've always got to respect Hawthorn," Laird said.
"I haven't beaten them since I started playing.
"They're obviously a very dangerous side, they didn't get the result on the weekend, but you know what they bring every week.
"You've got the personnel there, you've got the experience there so we've got to prepare the best we can."
The Crows face a selection headache with captain Taylor Walker and key defender Jake Lever set to return from hamstring injuries.
Walker was a late withdrawal from Sunday's win over the Giants, while Lever impressed in a SANFL trial at Football Park the previous day.
"Tex was precautionary last week, so I think he's ready to go this week," Laird said.
"Jake had his first game back and from all reports played well and got through it unscathed.
"It's tough on the selection committee with how everyone played this week."
Livewire forward Charlie Cameron was among several strong performers in Adelaide's stunning Round One win as the Crows shared the load in the midfield and up forward.
Cameron was influential with 23 possessions, eight clearances and two goals to his name. He also claimed an early Mark of the Year contender in the second term.
Crows defender Rory Laird said Cameron's increased running capacity had been the key to helping him impact the game.
"You've seen over the last couple of years where he gets his 10 or 12 possessions, but he lights the game up," Laird said.
"And now he's gone and had (23) and eight clearances and he's really turned it on.
"He can be a really dominant player and he can add that inside and outside flair to our game.
"You saw him come off the back of a stoppage and burst through and he really breaks the games open.
"He can be a super damaging player and he's got a lot of confidence in himself and he can rip a game apart."
Laird was also extremely influential across half-back, picking up a game-high 40 possessions.
