They’re two of the leading contenders for the premiership, but Adelaide and Greater Western Sydney are working together to give themselves the best chance of winning the flag.

The Crows and Giants have agreed to hold a scratch match for their reserves teams next Friday morning in Adelaide with the game a strong chance of going ahead.

It will be less than 24 hours after the two sides face off in the first qualifying final at Adelaide Oval on Thursday night.

Both clubs failed to reach the finals of their respective reserves competitions.

The Crows finished eighth in the 10-team SANFL competition, while the Giants were at the bottom of the 10-team NEAFL ladder.

The Giants wanted to play the reserves teams of Sydney or Brisbane Lions last weekend during the first week of the NEAFL finals, but were unable to get the game over the line.

The SANFL finals start this weekend.

"Those that don't play in the first final will get a game," Crows forward Josh Jenkins told radio station FIVEaa on Thursday.

"Often it can be hard if you just train, and don't have some game footage to put in front of the coaches.

"The guys can play in that scratch match (will benefit from it)."

The Crows claimed the minor premiership for the first time since 2005, while the Giants are hungry to go one step further after last year's preliminary final loss to the Western Bulldogs.
