Adelaide and Gold Coast have met seven times, with the Crows winning all seven meetings.
The two sides have already played once this season in Round Six at Metricon Stadium where Adelaide won by 31 points.
Adelaide captain Taylor Walker has kicked 18 goals in his four career matches against the Suns. This includes a bag of four in the most recent meeting between the sides earlier this year.
Walker and teammate Eddie Betts are ranked fourth and fifth in the League for scoreboard impact according to Champion Data.
Scott Thompson holds the record for most possessions by a Crow against Gold Coast. Thompson amassed 51 disposals in Adelaide’s win over the Suns at Metricon Stadium in Round 22, 2011.
Thompson is averaging a career-high 8.5 clearances per game this season – second only to Brownlow Medal favourite Nat Fyfe (8.7). The consistent Crow collected 30 or more possessions in a game for the 68th time in his career in Sunday’s Showdown.
The Crows and Suns have the highest kick-to-handball ratios in the competition this season.
Gold Coast has the highest percentage of contested possession (42.6) and lowest percentage of uncontested possession (57.4) in the AFL.
The Suns have been hit hard by injuries. Gold Coast has used 40 players – the equal-most of any team in the competition. In comparison, the Crows have only used 31 players. Ten Crows have played every game, while only three Suns have achieved the same feat.
The Suns could receive some good news on the injury front this week, with Charlie Dixon and Harley Bennell in the mix to return.
The Crows restored their ranking as the No.1 clearance team in the competition on the weekend, averaging 43.1 clearances per game.
The 17th-ranked Suns have only won two games this season, but their form has improved over the past month. Gold Coast belted North Melbourne by 55 points in captain Gary Ablett’s return in Round 14.
In three games since returning from a shoulder injury, Ablett has averaged 30 possessions, nine clearances, eight tackles, six inside 50ms and two goals – proving he remains one of the elite players of the competition.
After booting three goals against Port Adelaide, Crows forward Josh Jenkins is only one goal shy of his 100th career goal. Jenkins, who has played 60 AFL games, would be just the 25th player to kick triple figure goals for the Adelaide Football Club.
Michael Rischitelli is Gold Coast’s leading possession-getter this season with 356. He’s also won more clearances (84), inside 50ms (64) and laid more tackles (89) than any of his teammates.
Kade Kolodjashnij is a key playmaker in the Suns’ back half. The young defender has taken more marks (88) than any other Sun, and also leads the club in uncontested possessions, handball receives, rebound 50ms and effective kicks.
If Rory Sloane, Rory Laird and Rory Atkins are all selected this week, it will be the first time three players with the first name ‘Rory’ have played in the same AFL team. Last weekend, Laird and Atkins played together as did Brodies Smith and Martin and Matthews Wright and Crouch.
Round 16 Rising Star nomine Touk Miller leads the Gold Coast Suns in score assists (19).
Charlie Dixon, who didn’t play last weekend because of an ankle complaint, tops the Suns’ goalkicking with 28.
