Premiership coach John Worsfold is confident Adelaide will secure the best possible candidate for the Club’s long-term coaching role.

Worsfold was appointed as Coaching Director earlier this month after the tragic passing of his good friend and former colleague Phil Walsh.

The two-time AFLCA Coach of the Year, who spent over a decade in the top job at West Coast, has played a supporting role to Interim Senior Coach Scott Camporeale and his young coaching panel in recent weeks.

But Worsfold’s experience may also be called upon as Adelaide hunts its next long-term leader.

Speaking on FIVEaa radio on Tuesday, Worsfold said it was important the players, coaches and support staff had clarity on the Club’s future, but insisted Adelaide was in good hands.

“They’re wondering about what their roles will be going forward,” he said.

“The players, where they sit, they’re all wondering about ‘what are we going to be looking at next year’ in terms of the coaching, not only a Senior Coach, but the whole coaching staff and then other support staff at the footy club.

“They’re all a little bit in the dark.

“So I’m going to work pretty closely with David Noble and Andrew Fagan on putting some plans in place around how it’s all going to look going forward in the future so some of these people can relax and do their job throughout the remainder of the season, because the Adelaide Footy Club is still really vying to earn a spot to play finals this year.”

Worsfold said he was confident the Club has the right process in place to land the best person for the job.

“Adelaide had a very successful coach selection criteria that they went through only nine or 10 months ago,” he said.

“They’re very confident in terms of what they need to do to search and then find the next Senior Coach. Whether I have any input on that, we’ll wait and see, but I know Andrew Fagan and David Noble and the Adelaide Board are very confident in the process that they’ll undertake towards the latter part of this footy season.”

A premiership Eagle as a coach and player, Worsfold confirmed that he wouldn’t apply for the Crows' senior role himself.

“I’ve ruled myself out of that,” he said.

“My personal position is not one that I could consider taking on a senior coaching role next year.

"It’s a massive job and I’m not ready to hand my life back over to the industry in that role as yet.”
