Adelaide midfielder Ebony Marinoff says a six-minute lapse late in the third quarter ultimately cost the Crows in the Qualifying Final against Brisbane on Saturday.

Leading by 13 points midway through the third term - with a healthy Norwood Oval crowd behind them - Adelaide could not capitalise on its momentum, as the Lions booted two quick goals in the shadows of three-quarter-time to level the scores.

Brisbane then continued its charge into the final period, taking the lead with just over 10 minutes remaining, before seeing off multiple Crows forward forays to seal a two-point win.

Speaking to the media on Monday as part of the 2023 AFLW Premiership Cup tour, Marinoff identified the end of the third term as the period that changed the game.

“We coughed up two goals in the last six minutes (of the third quarter), and that ultimately cost us the game I think,” Marinoff said.

“Our time management and execution let us down in that moment, we went into our shells a bit and played safe, which you can’t afford to do in finals, but it is something we’ll definitely learn from.

“There were some positives to take out of the game, and some great passages of play, but it goes to show you can’t have six-minute lapses like that against good opposition like Brisbane.”

As a result of the loss, Adelaide will front up again this weekend and face a red-hot Sydney in a Semi-Final at Norwood Oval.

Marinoff said that while it was not the ideal path to take in its finals series, the match against Sydney presented a great opportunity for Adelaide to recapture its best football.

“We are obviously bitterly disappointed with the weekend and certainly feel like it was a missed opportunity,” Marinoff said.

“But in saying that, we did earn the double chance and we are super excited about the opportunity to come up against the Swans this weekend.

“It’s kind of nice to be coming up against a team we haven’t played this season, so there is a bit of a clean slate there, the Swans are playing some terrific footy and are keen to take on such a big challenge.”

Now facing a do-or-die scenario, Marinoff urged Crows fans to get to Norwood Oval in big numbers on Saturday night and highlighted the influence they have on matches.

“We’ll need the crowd right behind us,” Marinoff said.

“Norwood has been amazing for us all year, we’ve had some thrilling matches here over the years and the crowd certainly rides the wave and gives us a big boost.

“The more people we can get to the ground on Saturday night the better, even chatting to opposition players they feel the pressure when our crowd is involved, so it really is like having an extra player out there for us.”
