Adelaide forward Danielle Ponter has received a Goal of the Year nomination for her incredible long-range effort in the Crows’ Round Two win over Richmond on Friday.

After being injected into the midfield for a centre bounce stoppage in the second term, Ponter won the footy and quickly sent the ball forward.

What happened next was remarkable, as the ball carried over the first group of players in the Crows forward 50, before a fortunate bounce led to it evading Richmond’s deep defenders and travelling towards the goal.

It then continued to roll and crossed the line, sending the Crows into a frenzy.

The goal came at a crucial time for Adelaide, as it helped create a comfortable lead after a tense opening quarter.

The Crows then continued the momentum into the second half to run away with a convincing 29-point win.

Voting closes on Thursday, September 14 at 2.30pm (ACST).
