Adelaide AFLW Senior Coach Matthew Clarke wants fans to “pack out” Norwood Oval for the side’s Round One clash with Port Adelaide on Saturday.
The Crows open their 2023 campaign with a Showdown against their crosstown rivals - the second AFLW game against the Power - following the historic match last year.
Speaking to the media on Friday, Clarke said it was important for Crows fans to turn up and support the team, as players begin their quest for a fourth AFLW flag.
“We are super excited (for the season to start), it’s been a long wait,” Clarke said.
“Hopefully we can pack out Norwood Oval and create a really great atmosphere.
“To have a Showdown, crosstown rivalry, to kick things off is going to be super exciting and if we can get this place full, the atmosphere will be electric.
“We know they (Port) are going to be a great challenge and we are well aware of the talents of some of the players who have come in for them.”
Clarke said his side was fit, firing and keen to attack the challenges that come with a new campaign, following months of pre-season.
“All players were probably ready to play a month and a half ago but we are here now and tomorrow we get to jump into it,” Clarke said.
“Our players worked incredibly hard (during the off-season and pre-season), probably going back even before the pre-season, they’ve essentially been going since late January.
“It’s time to play, but overall the pre-season was good, we had two good hit-outs against Brisbane and Geelong and we saw some things we liked.
“Ultimately that gets shovelled to one side now, and we get into the real stuff, which is exciting.”
Adelaide will blood two Club debutants in the Showdown, with former GWS veteran Yvonne Bonner and ex-Power youngster Sarah Goodwin earning selection.
Clarke was confident both would fit into the side seamlessly.
“Both have played AFLW before, but Yvonne Bonner has come back from the other side of the world, she’s a 36-year-old mum, but she’s been amazing since she joined us,” Clarke said.
“We are really excited to see what she can do.
“Then Sarah Goodwin comes in for her first game for us as well.
“It’s great for those two players and I’m sure they’ll love the atmosphere that hopefully will get created tomorrow.”
