Adelaide defender Luke Nankervis says a misplaced email almost cost him the chance of playing for the Sandringham Dragons during his junior years.

Taken with pick-two in the 2021 Preseason Draft by Adelaide, the 20-year-old made his debut in Round 19 this year against Melbourne at the MCG.

Nankervis joined Sauce and Thomo on last week’s edition of The Crows Radio Show, where he explained the importance of checking your junk mail.

“I started my junior career at Bentleigh Demons and then made my way to the (Sandringham) Dragons,” Nankervis said.

“I didn’t think that I got an invitation to Dragons in my under-16’s year.

“Turns out I did, they just sent it to my junk mail.

“I had a dream one night that I made Dragons, checked my mail (the next morning) searched up Sandy Dragons and it turns out I had an email from them.

“So, I emailed them back and they gave me a three-day chance to train with them and I ended up making the squad and that was right before COVID so I guess I am pretty lucky that I saw that email.”

The 191cm defender debuted last month after being rewarded for solid form in the SANFL where he averaged 18.5 disposals at 89 per cent efficiency.

He has since looked at home down back at AFL level, showcasing his class by foot where he has averaged 13.3 disposals, 4.3 marks and 3.3 tackles over three games.
