Five Crows have made the cut in Mike Sheahan’s famed Top 50 list for the 2014 season.

Vice-captains Rory Sloane (19) and Patrick Dangerfield (23) were ranked highest for Adelaide after another stellar season for the popular pair.

2013 Club Champion Sloane finished runner-up in this year’s race for the gold jacket and firmed from No.31 in Sheahan’s pre-season Top 50. The tough midfielder was fourth in the AFL for tackles (147) and score assists (36) and was top three at the Club for possessions, clearances and inside 50ms in 2014.

Dangerfield drifted from a No.3 ranking in Sheahan’s pre-season Top 50 but still ranked strongly following another fine season with the Crows. The 24-year-old led the AFL for contested possessions, was third in the competition for clearances and hard-ball gets, and was Adelaide’s leading vote-getter at the 2014 Brownlow Medal count with 21 votes.

Defenders Daniel Talia (28) and Brodie Smith (37) were both included in Sheahan’s Top 50 for the first time.

Talia, who turned 23 on Thursday, enjoyed a career-best season and took home the Malcolm Blight Medal in last month’s Crows Club Champion award. The athletic full-back blanketed some of the competition’s most dangerous forwards this year, including Jarryd Roughead, Nick Riewoldt and Travis Cloke.

Smith also excelled this year to finish fourth in the Crows Club Champion voting. The skilful backman led the AFL for long kicks (136) and was second in the AFL for rebound 50ms (109) and metres gained (12,131m) in 2014.

Smith’s position was revealed on Wednesday in a sneak-peak of Sheahan’s full list.

Both Smith and Talia featured in all 22 games for the Crows and were rewarded with spots in the 2014 All Australian team and the AFL Players’ Association 22under22 side.

Sam Jacobs was ranked No.47 in Sheahan’s list in his second Top 50 appearance.

Jacobs was rated 14th in the 2012 edition, but took his game to another level in 2014. ‘Sauce’ did not miss a match, led the competition for hit-outs to advantage (257), and was second for total hit-outs (763) this year.

He was rewarded with a spot in the All Australian squad, but as was the case in 2012, Jacobs was unlucky to miss out on selection in the final team.
