Jason Porplyzia, Sam Shaw, Sam Kerridge and Kyle Hartigan will be sporting new looks come round one after signing up for the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave.

Already sporting short locks, Team Captain Porplyzia’s appearance won’t change too much but Kerridge will part with his stylish fringe and rookie Hartigan with his mop of curly brown hair on Thursday, March 14.

The World’s Greatest Shave began in 1998 and is today one of the biggest fundraising events in the country, with in excess of 150,000 people to shave or colour their hair between March 14-17 this year.

More than 11,500 people are expected to be diagnosed with a blood cancer or related blood disorder in Australia this year – equivalent to 31 people every day. The Leukaemia Foundation is the major charity partner of the Crows Foundation and Adelaide Football Club for 2013.

A board member of the Crows Foundation, Porplyzia said the players were hoping to raise $10,000 to help fund research to find cures and provide free services to support Australian families.

“The Leukaemia Foundation is a great cause, and one we’re happy to get behind,” he said.

“I haven’t got much hair to lose, but Sammy Kerridge is pretty proud of his fringe and Kyle has long locks too. A couple of the boys are a bit nervous about the shave, but it’ll be worth it if we can raise $10,000.”

Please visit the Crows Team page to join the team or donate, or log onto Jason Porplyzia, Sam Kerridge, Sam Shaw or Kyle Hartigan’s pages to donate direct.

The Crows Foundation is set to distribute $100,000 to three selected charities in 2013.

After considering all submissions, we are proud to announce the Leukaemia Foundation as the Adelaide Football Club’s major charity partner receiving a grant of $75,000.

The Crows Foundation will also support the Asthma Foundation of SA and Camp Quality who will receive grants of $15,000 and $10,000 respectively.

Beyond financial support, the Adelaide Football Club through the Crows Foundation will actively promote the core messages of the Leukaemia Foundation and assist them in extending their communication and promotional campaigns.

Chairman of the Crows Foundation Keith Conlon said: “We are delighted to be partnering with such a respected charity as the Leukaemia Foundation, assisting in their initiatives including a purpose built patient facility now under construction.

“Our expanded partnerships of the Asthma Foundation SA and Camp Quality will allow both these charities to deliver their services with our financial and promotional backing”.

General Manager of the Leukaemia Foundation Simon Matthias said: “It is a great thrill for our Foundation to be the official charity partner of the Adelaide Football Club and the Crows Foundation.

“This grant and promotional support will continue to drive our awareness and tangibly support children with blood cancer diseases in South Australia.”

The Crows Foundation and the Adelaide Football Club will be actively working with its charity partners to maximise the potential for fundraising and awareness throughout the year.

As the official charity and community arm of the Adelaide Football Club, the Crows Foundation was established in 2005 to independently manage the vast number of requests made upon the Club annually.  To date it has raised and distributed over $750,000 to an extensive list of South Australian charities with a focus on children in need.

The Crows Foundation is a tangible example of the active and passionate commitment of the Adelaide Football Club to its community since our inception in 1991.
