Courtney Cramey says her Goal of the Year contender in Adelaide’s 60-point win over Melbourne was not necessarily meant to be a shot on goal, but the classy kick from the boundary was more than just a fluke.

Her snap from the right pocket bounced once in front of the posts before it snuck through the square, beating a crush of players moving forward to meet the ball.

“I was trying to get it to the top of the square and hope that someone like Stevie-Lee Thompson ran onto it,” Cramey told reporters post-game.

“We had great ball use coming out of the middle all day, the support around the contest was really good.

“The mids around the contest with Erin Phillips and Ebony Marinoff were unreal.

“We had that support all day and with pressure we can maximise that opportunity and get it forward.”

Going into the game Cramey and her teammates felt confident as the Club eyed off an AFLW finals cementing win, having missed out in 2017.

The 33-year-old, who kicked just one goal in 2018 also, said this season’s Crows outfit was a new-look compared to last year and a focus on pressure had paid off.

“We’re a completely different side to last year playing a completely different brand of footy,” she said.

“We went into it with the focus of putting into practise what we’ve learned since November and really bringing that heat, which we did.

“Our focus going into the game was all about pressure and I think we really brought it today.”

Cramey also credited a strong season – which has the Crows on a six-game winning streak – to the knowledge being passed down by veteran players such as Phillips, with the short-term and long-term gains already paying dividends.

“It’s all about our young players too that are learning off her [Erin],” Cramey said.

“She’s a really great leader and a great person to have around the Club.

“People like Chloe Scheer and Hannah Martin are going to go ahead in leaps and bounds having people like her to learn off.”
