As a patriotic South Australian-born, it was only logical for Wayne Pash to support the Adelaide Crows when the Club entered the AFL in 1991.

Even though he has not lived in the state for more than four decades, Pash’s support for his beloved Crows has never wavered.

“I lived in Sydney and started to follow Sydney a bit back in the 1980s and then I moved to Alice Springs in 1990 and the Crows started to play in the 90s, so as soon as they started I immediately felt an emotional connection to them,” Pash, 69, said.

“I was born in South Australia and grew up in Adelaide, spent my first 25 years there but have lived interstate ever since.

“We absolutely watch most games on TV and we’ve always had to have pay TV, otherwise we wouldn’t get to see Crows games that often.”

And there is one moment from the Club’s early days that sticks in his memory and is a big reason why he still supports Adelaide today.

“One really nice story was when we lived in Canberra, we used to go and watch the Crows play in Sydney when they played up there,” Pash, who now lives in Victoria, said.

“One time there was this after-match function, but it was a bit crowded, so we just walked off to go back to our car and the bus for the crows players was there, so we stood and watched the players go to the bus.

“I had my son and daughter there and my son was about five or six and we were standing there and Mark Ricciuto was walking to the bus and he came over and started to talk to my son, Reuben. He became a rostered-on Crows supporter.

“It was great, it wasn’t prompted but Mark was his favourite player and it was just one of those things.”

Pash, who’s second cousin is Magarey Medallist, Jeff Pash, moved to Canberra in 1993 and, up until he and his wife relocated to Victoria last year, was part of Adelaide’s Canberra Supporters Group.

This is despite his wife supporting Fitzroy until the merger with the Brisbane Bears in 1996, and now being a Lions supporter.

“Fitzroy was the team my wife supported, she is now a Brisbane supporter but she’s a Crows Member as well," Pash said.

“She comes to watch the Crows when they come to Melbourne and I'll go and watch Brisbane with her, so apart from when they play each other, it’s all good.”

Pash says he loves being an Victorian Crows Member and is looking forward to attending Adelaide’s Round 14 clash against Collingwood at the MCG, following this week’s bye.

“The best thing about being part of the Crows family is the enjoyment I get out of seeing them win and the connection I feel with the footy Club and other supporters."
