Golden Grove Football Club will don an Indigenous guernsey next month, courtesy of chief designer Shane Edwards.
The Crows’ Indigenous Player Development Manager was approached by his boyhood Club to create the guernsey ahead of Golden Grove’s clash with Edwardstown in Round Eight, on June 17.
“Golden Grove Footy Club is where it all started for me,” Edwards told The Crows Show.
“They asked me if I wanted to design the jumper and I was pretty quick to say yes.
“I couldn’t be more rapt with being asked.”
Edwards reached out to Pat Caruso of We Create Print Deliver - who designed the Crows Indigenous guernsey in 2022 - to help bring the jumper to life.
“I really gave myself time to put what I thought should go on there before I asked around,” Edwards said.
“Pat Caruso of We Create Print Deliver, he designed the Crows Indigenous jumper in 2022 so I caught up with him.
“He designed the whole thing and just put my ideas down on print and I couldn't believe what it looked like.”
Edwards described the overall theme of the guernsey as “coming back home”.
“That’s why there are boomerangs - that’s been my story, to leave and go and play for Richmond in Melbourne to coming back to Adelaide,” he said.
“The three ovals are the three ovals Golden Grove has played on (and) the different colours around the outside of the meeting place - the green ones are the coaches, all four coaches I had when I was playing there with the president, team manager, parents and teammates all looking in.
“Down here you’ve got the symbol for man and woman. All the yellow dots on this bottom boomerang represent every player I’ve played with at Golden Grove.”
Also on The Crows Show this week, Club Dietitian Georgia Bevan talks through the food demands of an AFL list and midfielder Ben Keays reflects on his 100 AFL games.
