Adelaide forward Darcy Fogarty says a “comfortable” routine is his secret to success when it comes to set-shot goal-kicking.
Renowned for his accuracy in front of the sticks, Fogarty has kicked 98.38 across his 66 AFL games to date.
Speaking to Sauce and Thomo on The Crows Radio Show, the 23-year old revealed how his routine had developed during his time at the Club.
So how does a Fogarty set-shot look in 2023?
He lifted the lid on a couple of key points that go through his mind whenever he lines up for goal.
“I’ve got 20 steps from where I think I’m going to kick it, I’ve got six walking steps and then I get into a bit of a rhythm from there,” Fogarty said.
“I don’t really pick something out behind the goals to aim for, I just kind of aim towards the goals.
“But I’m a big believer in if you drop the ball straight, no matter where it hits on your boot it is going to come back to the midline of where you’re aiming, so ball drop is probably the most important thing for me.”
