Adelaide Senior Coach Matthew Nicks is confident his side can continue to build on its Showdown win, saying the squad's depth is "as strong" as he's seen it.
The Crows take on Fremantle at Adelaide Oval this Saturday and are eyeing a second, consecutive victory, after beating Port Adelaide last weekend.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Nicks said that while Adelaide had missed some key personnel in recent weeks, he was pleased with the number of in-form players who were pushing for selection, labelling the squad the strongest it has been since he joined the Club.
“Our squad is as strong as it has been since I have been at the club,” Nicks said
“Our SANFL performances have been consistent and at a very high level.
“We have a lot of players who are putting their hand up saying I can play at AFL level if you need me.
“Even with a few guys out for different reasons whether that is suspension or injury we have got guys coming in, in good form which is a sign of a strong squad.”
Adelaide has a busy upcoming fixture of games with this weekend’s clash against Fremantle, before a five-day break and then the AFL's Gather Round, which the Crows will play against Carlton next Thursday.
“We go into a five day break next week and then a 10-day break after that, so we’ve got to factor a fair bit of that in when it comes to selection this week,” Nicks said.
“We want to go out and do whatever we can to win the game of footy, play the best side we possibly can but be aware of what’s coming.”
Adelaide fans will have to wait another week to see star forward Darcy Fogarty, after Nicks ruled him out of the game against the Dockers.
Nicks said Fogarty was “progressing well” but the Club would not take any risks with the 23-year-old.
The Senior Coach was expecting a tough battle against Fremantle but hoped his side would be able to build on the momentum, following the Showdown win.
“We come out against a side who last year were right up towards the top,” Nicks said.
“They limit score against, it’s going to be really challenging for us and they found some form last week.
