Crows confident of replacing Talia
Nathan van Berlo says Adelaide has plenty of options to replace injured defender Daniel Talia
Talia landed awkwardly in the last quarter of last Saturday's qualifying final loss to the Sydney Swans and was in substantial pain as he walked off with his jumper acting as a makeshift sling.
The form of his would-be opponent Matthew Pavlich compounds the loss of the 20-year-old at the weekend, after Pavlich sunk Geelong with a six-goal haul on Saturday.
Van Berlo said there were options within the current side to cover the NAB AFL Rising Star, as well as Andy Otten and Luke Thompson.
Neither have played much AFL football in 2012, but van Berlo said their form in the SANFL suggested they could step up without issue.
"We've obviously got a number of options we could go with in defence, obviously the two talls we've still got down there with 'Truck' and Sam Shaw but also there's guys in the SANFL in Andy Otten and Luke Thompson," the skipper said.
"With everyone that's come into the side throughout the year through the SANFL, they've all been in really solid form which gives us confidence when they come in to play if they're selected that they're able to hold up to the AFL standard.
"If we choose to go that way (in selecting Otten or Thompson) then we'll have full faith in them."
Van Berlo conceded his side had been soundly beaten by the Swans in the qualifying final but he was adamant it could take confidence into Friday night knowing they hadn't lost consecutive games all season.
The closest Adelaide came to losing two games in a row in 2012 was a four-point win over Essendon in round 19, after they were beaten by Geelong by 27 points the week before.
The Crows captain said the club's success in rebounding was due to its strong review of games and the players' ability to quickly learn from their mistakes.
"I think that provides confidence to the group, having been able to respond from any form of adversity this year," he said.
"From our results this year we've proved that we're able to respond from a loss … in the losses that we have had haven't been huge downfalls in our game plan, it's been some little changes we've had to make here and there.
"We're confident, obviously from the weekend as well, that we can make that in a short turnaround."
