Adelaide Assistant Coach James Rahilly says the Crows will have a “deep look” into the reasons behind their loss to GWS on Sunday.

The Crows flew out of the blocks against the Giants and held a solid lead at the main break, only to fall during the second half and go down by 16 points.

Speaking to the media on Monday, Rahilly said Adelaide’s first-half was full of plenty of positives but players and coaches would review the second half hard.

“That’s something we have to look a bit deeper into,” Rahilly said.

“It didn’t look like us. I think we had 40 tackles and that’s just not us, either, so we have to get that game back on our terms.

“We need to review it (the game) as a group.

“It was disappointing that we didn’t run the game out well.”

Rahilly said the contest work in the second half was what let the Crows down.

“Obviously what’s been said is that we started quite well and had the game on our terms

early and then probably after half-time, it fell away, especially around the ball,” Rahilly said.

“It still comes down to our contest and where we were poor.

“I thought they beat us around the ball and then they were able to get it forward, and pretty deep entries, too, so it was locked in.

“We couldn’t really get the ball out and get it forward and give our forwards a chance.”

Rahilly said there were, however, positives to be taken out of the game, including veteran Rory Sloane’s return to competitive football after an ACL injury last season, as well as the performances from Luke Pedlar and debutant Max Michalanney.

“I think the first half (is) how we want to play… Our ability to intercept marks and then score off turnover was quite positive,” Rahilly said.

“All the things we’ve been working on with our offence to give our forward line a chance, I think you saw that in the first half.

“The positives were with Rory (Sloane) coming back, Max Michalanney playing his first game and I thought he looked quite composed at times and used the ball really well.

“Luke Pedlar, who has been injured the whole time he’s been here, I thought his game was really solid and he played a really important role for us.”
