The Adelaide Football Club is continuing to strengthen its governance practices by implementing limits on Board Directors’ tenures.
Under the proposal, which requires formal approval at next month’s annual general meeting, Board-appointed Directors will be allowed to serve a maximum of four terms or 12 years.
Member-elected Directors will be able to serve four terms, equating to eight years, in a move which requires minor modifications to the Club’s Constitution.
There is currently no tenure limit and the proposed change will apply to a person’s lifetime, meaning they cannot fulfil their term and seek re-appointment at a later stage.
Crows Chairman John Olsen said the proposal represented good and effective governance and the Club was focussed on ongoing improvement.
“Having the right people sitting around the Board table and guiding our Club will always be of paramount importance,” Olsen said.
“Putting timeframes around tenure ensures there is renewed knowledge, skills and perspectives.”
Late last year the Club also created an independent advisory group, comprising highly-respected business leaders Carolyn Hewson and Jim Hazel as well current Board Director Richard Fennell, to assist with the appointment of Board Directors.
