Crows midfielder Sophie Armitstead will miss the remainder of the 2017 AFL Women’s season after scans revealed a meniscus tear in her left knee.
The incident occurred in the third quarter of the Club’s clash with the Western Bulldogs at Whitten Oval on Friday night.
After sustaining the injury, Armitstead came off the ground and took no further part in the game. It was the Northern Territory recruit’s first AFLW match.
Crows Senior Coach Bec Goddard said she was confident the 22-year-old would overcome the injury.
“Sophie has had a previous ACL reconstruction and meniscal repair. Scans today confirmed her ACL is intact. However, her meniscal repair has failed,” Goddard said.
“It’s devastating news for Sophie that she will miss the remainder of the season but I have no doubt that she’ll tackle this challenge head on.
“She is a great talent and has a bright future ahead of her.”
