Adelaide's Andrew McLeod will continue to play after the mid-season break after a decision to avoid foot surgery.

After extensive discussions between the club doctor, medical specialist, senior coach and McLeod, it has been agreed he will not have an operation at this stage.

McLeod has been troubled by a bursa in his left foot. He has continued to play but been forced to miss several training sessions in recent weeks.

The medical opinion is that the condition is improving with the current rehabilitation program and that coupled with the rest over the next week this should allow further improvement.

At this stage the specialist has deemed that an operation is not necessary.

McLeod, who has played 93 consecutive games for Adelaide since last missing a match, said he was confident he could avoid surgery.

“Hopefully the rehab and the rest will help settle it down,” he said. “It was better last week than it has been and we think it is manageable so I’d prefer to keep playing.”
