Adelaide has appointed former Brisbane Lions recruiting manager Kinnear Beatson as its first full-time Victorian recruiting officer.

Beatson, who left the Lions late last year after 12 seasons with the club, will start work for the Crows in Melbourne next month.

Adelaide recruiting manager James Fantasia said the appointment would significantly boost the club’s recruiting network.

“Kinnear is highly regarded in footy circles for his knowledge of talent identification so this is a great appointment for our club,” Fantasia said. “He played a key role at the Lions in finding many of the players involved in their three consecutive premierships.

“He will be able to devote his time to watching the biggest pool of junior footballers in Australia and also be a valuable member of our recruiting team in the lead-up to the drafts.”

Beatson was a development officer and under 19s assistant coach at Carlton from 1988-91 and was regional manager of the Western Jets in 1992-93 before joining Brisbane in 1994 as Victorian office manager. He took on the club’s top recruiting job in 1997-98 and was based in Melbourne.

“I’m delighted to be given the opportunity to work with a professional organisation like the Adelaide Football Club,” Beatson said. “I’m looking forward to seeing another club’s recruiting system in operation and providing additional support to the recruiting team.”
