Ebony Marinoff will call on the contrasting experiences of winning and losing AFLW Grand Finals as she prepares for Saturday’s decider at Adelaide Oval.
Adelaide’s midfield beast is set to play her fourth Grand Final in six AFLW seasons but said last year’s loss to Brisbane confirmed how much better it was to be in the triumphant sides in 2017 and 2019.
“It’s super exciting, we don’t shy away from the fact that every pre-season we set out to be there on the last day,” said Marinoff, the 2021 Club Champion and three-time All Australian.
“To accomplish that is a great achievement but I’m certainly not satisfied with just making the Grand Final, and nor are my team-mates.
“We were really disappointed with what we dished out in the (2021) Grand Final.
“The past year we’ve all just worked so incredibly hard to make sure we are in the position to give it another shot and learn from last year.
“You speak about having won a couple … it’s the best feeling in the world, I get goosebumps speaking about, it really is the greatest feeling.
“Both (winning and losing) will be motivators on Saturday.”
Marinoff, the only Crows player to have featured in all the club’s 52 games since the national women’s competition was launched in 2017, believes the extra room on Adelaide Oval suits the Crows.
“There is more space to run, it opens up the game, and the girls love playing there,” the 24-year-old said.
“I still remember the 2019 grand final with 53,000. Hopefully South Australians get around us and the Crows fans give us an advantage.
“It’s an exciting week and we’ve got to get around our teammates who haven’t had that experience before.
“But I’ve been there and I know what it takes … a mellow week and go out and give it our best shot on Saturday.”
