See what Carlton coach Brendon Bolton had to say following his side’s 60-point loss to the Crows on Sunday.
On Carlton’s missed opportunities in the first half…
“I thought out first half – by and large – we got enough inside 50ms, we caused quite a lot of centre-forward turnovers for us.
“We just didn’t capitalise on that effort and turnover. It’s a little bit deflating when you get a few entries and not get the reward for entries in the first half.”
On the Crows’ pressure around the ball…
“It’s an accumulation of pressure and we need to reward the Crows for that. We say we turn the ball over and got hurt the other way, but there can be two ways of looking at that turnover, was it our mistake? Or their pressure?
“That’ what you need to dissect; the discrepancy between turnovers caused by (Adelaide) or turnovers caused by us not being clean enough with the ball.
“That really determines our review. We know they’ve kicked 11 or so goals from turnovers, we’ve just got to look at the why.”
On Adelaide’s ability to hit the scoreboard from those turnovers…
“The Crows on turnover hurt us, particularly in the second half. Overall I think they would have kicked 10 or 11 goals from turnovers.
“We know that they’re dangerous on the turnover and they can get you out the back.”
On the decision to not match-up on Rory Laird who had a career-high 35 disposals…
“We have conversations around that but there’s always a trade-off when you do those things and we needed to score more, so you can do that and that takes away an opportunity to score as well.
“We weighed it up and we made a decision to back in our system.”
On the difficult task of shutting down Adelaide’s forward line…
“They’re really dangerous, they’ve got a lot of firepower but I don’t think it’s about match-ups, it’s about your team defence.
“For periods it worked for us but we just need to be a team that can do it for longer and their quick ball movement on turnover really hurts you.”
