Two-time Crows Club Champion Scott Thompson will remain at West Lakes next season.
A clause in Thompson’s existing deal has triggered a contract extension of up to two years, removing him from the Free Agency market.
Thompson has played 245 games (206 for Adelaide) in a decorated AFL career spanning 13 years. The durable 30-year-old played every game this season and has missed only three games since making his Crows debut in 2005.
This year, the 2012 All Australian led Adelaide in total disposals (543), clearances (111), tackles (108) and handball receives (191) and ranked ninth in the AFL in contested possessions (263).
General Manager of List Development and Strategy David Noble said the Crows vice-captain would continue to play a crucial role at the Club.
“Scott has been a consistent performer at an elite level over a number of years," Noble said.
"Scott has an important role to play in our playing group, not only on match day but in a leadership capacity, mentoring our emerging midfielders. He showed resilience to play every game this year and we expect him to be a key contributor again in 2014.”
Thompson has finished top-three in the Crows Club Champion award in five of the last seven seasons, including back-to-back wins in 2011 and 2012. The strong-bodied midfielder finished equal-fourth in the Brownlow Medal last year, and polled another nine votes (ranked third at Adelaide) this year.
Originally selected with pick No.16 in the 2000 AFL National Draft, Thompson played 39 games with former club Melbourne before seeking a trade home to South Australia at the end of 2004.
Thompson is the last of Adelaide’s ‘Free Agents’ to commit ahead to the Club of the start of the Free Agency period next Friday (October 4).
He follows young teammates Brad Crouch, Sam Kerridge, Daniel Talia, Rory Laird, Luke Brown, Cam Ellis-Yolmen, Lewis Johnston and Mitch Grigg in committing to Adelaide this year. Captain Nathan van Berlo, defenders Andy Otten, Ben Rutten and Brent Reilly, forwards Tom Lynch and Jason Porplyzia and onballer Matthew Wright have also re-signed.
