Brad Crouch gave Fantasy coaches a glimpse of what’s to come with a promising performance in Adelaide’s NAB Challenge win over the Kangaroos.
Crouch, 21, was the Crows’ top-scorer in the 10-point victory with 80 Fantasy points from 26 possessions and a goal.
Like many of his teammates, the emerging midfielder had his game time managed by Crows coaching staff, but it was the manner that Crouch went about his business that impressed onlookers. The 2013 AFL Rising Star runner-up hunted the ball in typical fashion in close and moved well on the outside to earn his possessions.
With a full pre-season behind him and some luck on the injury front, the elder Crouch could prove to be one of the Fantasy picks of the season.
Dual-position pair Jarryd Lyons and Mitch Grigg also demand Fantasy attention after scores of 69 and 66 respectively.
Lyons showed his trademark toughness with four tackles alongside 20 disposals, while Grigg ran freely to collect four marks, four tackles and 14 disposals.
Both men have enjoyed excellent summers and will be desperate to cement their spots in Adelaide’s Round One squad.
The Crows have a tempting selection of dual-position players to choose from, including Sam Kerridge (41 points), Matthew Wright (45) and Brodie Martin (58). Fantasy coaches should continue to monitor Adelaide’s pre-season campaign closely to consider all options, but it was Lyons and Grigg who fired the first shots.
Local livewire Eddie Betts was another who banked a swag of points at Port Lincoln. The hometown hero kicked four goals from 16 possessions for a score of 77.
His haul could’ve been even bigger if not for a strange umpiring decision on the goal line.
Small forwards are often a bane in Fantasy football, but Phil Walsh showed no hesitation to inject Betts into the midfield when an extra spark was required.
A versatile Eddie Betts could prove a master Fantasy selection with more time up the ground given his awkward price tag of $386,000. Follow his form closely in Adelaide’s remaining NAB Challenge hit-outs.
Nathan van Berlo (34), Rory Laird (59) and Cam Ellis-Yolmen (59) all showed promising signs for the Fantasy bargain hunters.
VB remains one of the most selected players in the competition, but Laird and Ellis-Yolmen both shone brightly in limited game time.
Small utility Laird is a prototype team-first footballer who is likely to receive opportunities under new coach Phil Walsh.
Dynamic midfielder Ellis-Yolmen is basement priced at just $120,000 and could be worth a look if he can crack Adelaide’s starting 22.
