Six Crows soared beyond 100 Fantasy points in front of a sellout crowd at Adelaide Oval last Thursday night. It was the Club’s best Fantasy performance since the Crows’ Round Five victory over the Giants.
Despite the close attention of Brent Macaffer, Patrick Dangerfield ($531,693) exploded with a match-high 135 Fantasy points from 32 touches and eight tackles. Danger’s score was the fourth-highest total by any player in the competition for Round Nine and his second-best of 2014 since posting 149 points against GWS. The Crows’ co-vice captain has averaged 122 points in the past four rounds since returning to career-best form. The extended 10-day break before Adelaide’s next game will only help the 24-year-old freshen up before confronting the Blues at the MCG on Sunday afternoon. Dangerfield is now one of the most expensive players in the competition, but no Fantasy coach can afford to ignore him any longer.
The thrilling performance of Charlie Cameron ($125,430) was great news for Crows fans and Fantasy coaches alike. Cameron collected 62 points from 13 disposals, five tackles and a goal against the Pies in an impressive debut appearance. The 19-year-old is a tackling machine, meaning Cameron can score well without necessarily gathering a huge amount of the ball. Cameron’s bargain price will also make him an appealing option for many Fantasy coaches, with the speedster already adding $10k to his Fantasy value following his debut last Thursday. Downgrade targets are scarce up forward in AFL Fantasy at the moment, so expect Cameron to be one of the most traded-in players for the week.
Richard Douglas ($496,481) also represents good value after the 2010 Club Champion posted 107 points against the Pies. The 27-year-old booted two goals from 19 possessions along with four marks and eight tackles in a successful return from a two-game suspension. Incredibly, Douglas is owned by less than 0.5 per cent of the Fantasy community despite scoring three Fantasy tons from five games this season. Douglas is one of the most underrated players in the competition and his price will not stay under $500k for much longer.
Another promising return came in the form of Taylor Walker ($276,914), who notched 79 points in his first AFL match since Round Five of last season. Tex had 17 disposals and seven marks against Collingwood and looked right in his comfort zone patrolling Adelaide’s forward 50m arc. Walker’s radar was slightly off on Thursday night, with the burly forward registering four behinds for the match, but his the accuracy should improve as the 24-year-old gets a few more games under his belt. The two-time Club leading goalkicker is generously priced and should be a serious consideration for Fantasy coaches looking for bang for their buck up forward.
