Adelaide recruit Crow James Rowe has revealed a few superstitions have helped him through his first year in the Crows’ forward line.
Rowe, who was selected with Pick No.38 at last year’s AFL National Draft, said there were a few pre-game rules he followed to help get his head in the game.
“When going for goal, I do a couple of skip steps and I like wiping my hand on my shorts,” Rowe told AFC Media.
“I think that’s just to make sure the ball is not slippery.
“If it’s a home game, I like getting La Vita pasta… and I wash my hair two nights before a game.
“I don’t know why, I’ve always done it, it’s a bit of a superstition I think.
“Superstitions are somewhat dangerous, though, if you give yourself too many you end up tired before the game, so I’ve been trying to narrow it down a little bit.”
The mature-age recruit rocketed to the Crows’ list after two eye-catching seasons with Woodville-West Torrens in the SANFL.
He was joint winner of the SANFL Ken Farmer Medal for the most goals kicked in 2020, plus a premiership player with the Eagles that same year.
The 21-year-old, who is the son of former Adelaide player Stephen Rowe, enjoyed a memorable debut in Round One against Geelong.
He told AFC media booting his first AFL goal in front of a 40,000-strong crowd was a moment he would never forget.
“I haven’t watched it too many times but it was a very special moment for me and my family,” Rowe said.
“It’s probably more than I expected, playing in front of 50,000 people is something you can’t imagine until you experience it.
“I’m loving it and it’s everything I thought it would be, if not more.”
