Crows Brodie Smith, Shaun McKernan, Sam Shaw and Luke Thompson took time out on Wednesday to visit sick children at Ronald McDonald House and the Women’s & Children’s Hospital.

The players were given a tour of the new Ronald McDonald House premises on Melbourne Street and were particularly pleased to see the new outdoor play deck, which was built courtesy of a $60,000 donation from the Crows Foundation.

Ronald McDonald House put on an afternoon tea for the boys. They were tempted by cakes and sausage rolls, but with skin folds in mind managed to steer clear of the treats.

The players were amazed by the brave children and parents, who explained the struggles that led to their families staying at Ronald McDonald House. Some of the kids were in hospital when the Crows stopped by Ronald McDonald House, so the boys made a detour to the Women’s & Children’s Hospital to ensure no one missed out.

Gabriel, pictured, is an avid Crows supporter, whose spirits were brightened by the players’ visit. Gabriel will be in hospital for several months after suffering a brain aneurism. Thankfully, due to the quick action of his parents and medical staff, he is here today to tell the story.
