Harrison Wigg’s consistent SANFL season has been recognised with a spot in the SANFL’s Team of the Year.
Wigg, who turns 21 next month, was named on a half-back flank in the Team of the Year and was the only Crow to feature in the final 21-man team.
Veteran onballer Scott Thompson made the initial squad of 40 but was overlooked in the final side.
Third-year Crow Wigg was a reliable presence for Adelaide’s SANFL side in the midfield and off half-back.
The left-footer, who missed three home and away SANFL matches, finished the season ranked third for inside 50ms (76) and equal-fourth for kicks (263) across the League. Wigg collected more possessions at SANFL level than any other Crow (380) and was also No.1 at the Club for effective kicks (161) and handballs received (150).
He was second at the Club for contested possessions (143), clearances (72), ranked third at the SANFL Crows for rebound 50ms (45) and was Adelaide’s highest vote-getter at the SANFL’s Magarey Medal count.
Grand Finalists Sturt and minor premiers Woodville-West Torrens led the way with five players apiece featuring in the final Team of the Year.
Former Crow and Sturt coach Martin Mattner was named as coach of the team for the second consecutive year.
Ex-Adelaide defender Luke Thompson was chosen as captain of the team with fellow former Crows Mitch Grigg and James Battersby also included.
Players were selected based on their form across the entire minor round.
The SANFL Team of the Year selection committee was the SANFL’s Adam Kelly, Tom Hurley and Zac Milbank, Channel 7’s Mark Soderstrom and The Advertiser’s Chief SANFL Writer Warren Partland.
