Adelaide forward Ned McHenry has revealed the quote coach Matthew Nicks imprints on his players.
The Crows suffered a 52-point loss to the Power in an AFL practice match on Saturday, however McHenry was resolute the side could improve in a Community Series rematch this weekend.
“Nicksy has this great quote, ‘you’re never as good as you think you are and you’re never as bad as you think you are’,” McHenry told the media on Monday.
“There’s a couple of things we can change and if we do that well and do that quickly, we can see some results for sure.
“(On Saturday) we got a feel for where we’re at and took some good learnings.”
McHenry battled a persistent groin problem last year but has worked hard behind the scenes ahead of the 2021 season.
“It was mainly my groin in the second half of the season that I really struggled with,” McHenry said.
“I feel like I’ve got it under control now… I’m feeling a lot stronger and a lot more confident in my body.
“It was all about strengthening around my hip, and my core, and getting in a position where I could do the training loads required of an AFL program.”
Unfortunately, teammate Wayne Milera suffered a torn patella tendon in his left knee and will miss the 2021 season.
McHenry, who spent time in rehab with Milera in 2020, backed his teammate for a strong return next year.
“Junior is such a quality character,” McHenry said.
“I’ve been in rehab with him and I’ve seen firsthand how diligent he is and how he approaches his rehab.
“I’ve got no doubt he’ll come out of it stronger and a better player.
“It’s still disappointing to lose him, we’ll do our best to rally around him and support him.”
